After my wife and I had a baby shower in early November 2016, we returned some items to a local Target department store. We were issued Target gift cards from these returns and combined them with other Target gift cards we received from the baby shower to make a large purchase at Target.com.

We made a purchase of $680.23 on November 6, 2016 which the Target gift cards covered $601.82 and the remaining balance of $78.41 from the purchase was placed on our debit card. The items were shipped to our home over the next week in different shipments and our debit card was unlawfully charged each time an item was shipped to our home over the next week. My wife and I were very concerned with these charges and believed that someone had stolen our debit card number and made purchases to Target.com which resulted in us contacting our bank and cancelling our debit card. After multiple telephone calls over the next week to Target.com and our bank we discovered that “an error” occurred and Target.com had taken the $601.82 from the gift cards and also charged our debit card $601.82 along with the $78.41 which totaled $680.23.

After more telephone calls to Target.com they admitted that an error had occurred and planned to “refund” our money in the form of a Target gift card for $601.82. We explained to Target.com representatives multiple times that we needed our money refunded to our bank account and not a target gift card as they took the additional $601.82 from our bank account and also took the $601.82 from the multiple Target gift cards we had. We have contacted Target numerous times over the past few months and we finally received an email on December 15, 2016 stating that our money would be refunded in “10-15 business days” which has yet to occur. We still have not received a refund of our $601.82 which Target.com unlawfully took and admitted was an error.

This error occurred shortly after our Target.com purchase on November 6, 2016 and we are still without our money. We went through the Christmas holiday and the recent birth of our child with financial issues because we did not have the $601.82 which target unlawfully took and nothing has been resolved. This has been an ongoing issue for 3 months now and we just want our $601.82 placed back into our bank account.

We have incurred multiple over draft issues at our bank because of the missing money, could not spend what we had planned on Christmas gifts for family members and cannot purchase items for our newborn child because of our missing $601.82 which Target.com has not refunded to our bank account. We have spent over 10 hours on the phone over the past 3 months trying to resolve the issue and Target.com has not provided us with anything other than multiple apologies and a $75 Target.com gift card for “our troubles” which is completely insufficient for the amount of damage this has caused to our family.

Review about: Target Customer Care.

Reason of review: Problems with payment.

Monetary Loss: $602.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

I didn't like: Lengthy non resolution of the issue or account refund.

Have you contacted your bank about un authorized use of your card? They should be able to get the money back.

Why did you spend money that you did not have in the first place?

There is a big difference between spending $78.41 on a purchase and being overcharged $601.82.

They did not they used a gift card because someone gave them gift cards two people did and they used the gift cards to pay for the items. You did not read the whole letter or understood the whole letter.

They only used the $78.41 on debit card whatever that is I think it is. The bank took $601.82 from both their debit card and the gift card and Target owes them $601.82 in real money instead of Target money which is the gift card.
