Target store #222 in Rowland Heights, California you bring back merchandise that was purchased with debit card and you have the original receipt but no longer have the debit card and they refuse to give your money back only a gift card. Ask for General Manager and employee (name tag says Emely)says they are and you ask for business card they refuse to give you one, then you find out the name tag they are wearing is not their name because you ask for their name in writing to contact corporate and she writes down Haylie.

Find out she does not know all rules because they ask another employee Lando to come over and help and then you ask that other employee who the General Manager is of the store and he says he is and you ask for business card and refuses to give one. They all lie and smirk to each other and just do not care.

Since when can you not get your money back if you purchase with a debit card and have the original receipt. And why is all team members telling you they are the General Manager when they obvisouly are not they just call themselves managers.

Product or Service Mentioned: Target Manager.

I didn't like: Team members and the fact they did not give refund.

Most stores will refund your purchase in the same manner they were paid for or give you a store credit. If you had paid with cash they would have given you cash.

The reason they only refund credit or debit card purchases back to the card is that they have to pay a fee when you use the card.

If the process the return on the card they get the fee back. If they give you cash, they loose money (they fee they paid) and by giving you a store credit they avoid a loss.


Have you ever heard of receipt fraud? You know, where someone combs the trash/parking lot for receipts so that they can commit return scams?

Targets POS system will predominately gear towards returning the default means of payment as a way of verifying the receipt is legitimate.

In this case, you don't HAVE the default method of payment, so it will default to a gift card instead. Only rarely is receiving cash instead of a GC a thing.
