Target is not fair in promoting talent
Target is a great company but does not play fair when it is time to promote their managers and is often found promoting managers who are external hires and do not know the business. I highly recommend that someone looks into Merit based promotions becasue they are non existence in this company even though they say it is. Promotions come in play when DTL like you not based on what you can do for this company. Please leave the politics for the politicians and promote people based on merits and not based on whether your DTL and STL likes you or not.

Verified Reviewer | Charlotte, North CarolinaBad Customer Service at Target Matthews, NC
I had a very bad customer service experience today at the store located in Matthews NC. To buy a pair of shoes which didn't have a price tag, I had to go back and forth from the checkout counter to guest service four times, which took me 30 minutes to get the transaction done. Above that, an employee, Mel, instead of apologizing was very very rude which I think was very wrong. Also she tried to make it feel that I was insulting another customer and being rude to her...which was meaningless. While she was closing my transaction, she acknowledged her presence of the next customer who walked in there. But all the while when I was waiting, she was like I don't exist and how weird is that. Turns out she is the Manager - Guest services. Now how ironic is that! Talk about leading by actions! Over all the worst experience I had ever at any departmental store. p.s.I've also posted on the store's website.

Pay on Target RedCard, get your credit "frozen"
On April 14, 2011, Target received our payment of $1,500.00 They immediately "froze" our credit.....it will not be un-frozen until April 30th. I found this out on April 18th when the card was refused at the Philadelphia airport. One hour before we boarded a flight to Dublin so our son could compete in the World Championship's of Irish Dance. I had no "credit card" for the trip. Target ruined everything...but they did say they were sorry for the inconvenience..... No one could explain "why" the system was designed like this and no one cared!

Target did not clearly explain there extended warranty.
A couple years ago I bought an ipod at a target store in St. Cloud, MN. I purchased the three year service plan with it in case anything happened. I am now having issues with said iPod and when i purchased it they did not tell me that I had to call or go online to turn on the service plan. Now that I am having problems with it they are telling me they can't do anything for me since i didn't register the service plan. So Target has now lost a customer for life. I will never bye from them again. Witch really sucks because i like a lot of there other products.

Target's 90 day return policy
Purchased & shipped a $60 set of sheets for my daughter's brithday which was 70 days after purchase. Knowing of the 90 day return policy, I advised my daughter of that, but she was happy with them. Since she was building a new house & didn't need them, she did not open them until after the 90 days. Upon opening, she washed them & put them on the bed to find slits throughout the top sheet about every 8 inches, obviously had been cut with a box cutter. Store manager said he could make an exception to the rule if it were under $30, but not $60. So, we are stuck with defective sheets & Target does not care about customer relations!!!

Target register prices higher than the label or shelf prices
I tried the new Target grocery and bought five assorted small items. Two of them rang up higher on the register than the price on the shelf and/of the item. One was a package of Kraft Single Cheese Slices (28411****) which had a $2.49 label on the item but a "temporary price reduction" to $2.25 on the shelf but rang up at $3.24! The other was a package of Quaker Instant Oatmeal (23114****) which had a shelf price of $3.99 but which rang up at $4.79! Both were corrected at the Guest Service counter but after waiting in line and for someone check the prices on the shelf. I think that 2 out of 5 incorrectly priced items is not a good percentage (40%) of errors. How many other items were incorrectly priced? How many people did not closely check their receipts for such mistakes?

Ruined my little girls christmas!
My daughter's biggest wish is to have a barbie townhouse i looked every where and there where only a few stores left who have this thing i ordered one from "TARGET" they did not state it was on back order or out of stock until 2 weeks later when it's impossible to find my daughter another one. I recieve an email saying we cancelled your order and don't know when we will get anymore! When i called they told me well we recieved 6 and they went out randomly "sorry". If i had known from the beginning they were on back order i would had been searching elsewhere to me that is false advertisement and just plain "wrong"! All i get is a sorry!!Tell that to my 5yr old christmas morning!!!

Target Return Policy Sucks.
We bought a $70 stoller from the website. We never used it and decided to return it to the store. They wouldn't let us return the brand new stroller on the box because the return policy cuts off returns right at $70. So we got stuck with selling the stroller ourselves (for less of course), and after I wrote a colorful email to customer service, they thanked me for my input and brushed it off. I wrote another one, hoping to get more than the trained, automated response. No go. My advice? Don't buy anything from Target over $70 unless you KNOW you want to keep it.

Do not get involved policy
I was shopping at target last night and as I was walking out, a man proceeded to assault two women in the parking lot. As I started to walk towards them and yell for him to stop it, the man started to walk in to the store calmly and proceed with his shopping. One of the women walked in to the store and called for help of the associates, a manager arrived and said that it is their policy not to get involved. The police was called, complaint was filed. Target's polysy is not to get involved in insuring their customers safety! So be aware customers, if you are getting mugged, raped, assaulted or murdered in the parking lot of the target, do not bother to call for help because your safety is not their concern. I would not be surprised if they just stand there and watch.

Target return policy is so bad
We purchased a electronic game for our Grandson for Christmas at Target. Our Grandson already had the one we purchased. He and his mother went to exchange it for a different one. The Target Store manager said no. Why not,it is still wrapped and sealed in the original package and it even scans the bar codes from Target. The Target Manager, still said no. The Target Manager told my Grandson that he would have to give it to his Grandmother to take back, with her credit card. Well that seems simple enough, Not! We now have to box it up, ship it across the united states so that my Grandsons Grandmother can go back to the Target Store and get the right game and then ship it all the way back to my Grandson. My Grandson sent me a note. It simply said, "Grandma please do not buy me any more gifts from Target" I used to shop at Target a lot, Grandma

Registry, Online Orders, and Customer Service are Horrendous
I completed a baby registry at target.com and had a horrendous experience. I also registered at amazon.com and babiesrus.com and had a wonderful experience. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND REGISTERING AT TARGET FOR BABY OR WEDDING. When I went into the store, a target rep called the online department and said that there were computer glitches across the country that had been happening for 3 months. Needless to say gifts that people purchased for me never arrived, even though the online status said they had shipped. In one case someone bought me baby blankets and they said on the phone that they were shipped, but online it said that they were not. I never received them and after being on the phone (on hold for 30 minutes) with a customer service representative said that there was nothing they could do. Also online, one item was listed as not shipped, yet I had received it. What a crock! It was their computer glitches that caused this problem. They make tons in profit. Horrible customer service, disorganized, and completely unhelpful, I will NEVER ORDER ONLINE FROM TARGET AGAIN.

Do Not Shop at Target
I made a purchase on 1/17/11. On 1/19/11 I returned the item with the receipt. I have never received my credit. I have called several times, I went into the store and the "manager" filled out some form. It has been over a week and still no refund. It is only $24.86, so it's not that much. When I call there, the "manager" is not in. It is always her day off--no matter which day I call. Target will lose alot more business than that, I will not shop there again. I will go to Walmart or Kmart, at least there I might get some customer service.

Worst retail experience I have ever had.
I won't bore any one with unnecessary vitriol. I will just say that I placed an order via Target.com, and after being notified that my order was "delayed", I decided to cancel it, as it was a gift, and I imagined it wouldn't be delivered in time. The email I received included a link and indicated I would be able to cancel my order. I was surprised to find no option to do so on the order page, so I decided to call Target.com instead. Long story short, I called, emailed, and responded to multiple people who insisted to me that despite my items not having been shipped yet, I would not be able to cancel my order after all. I was told several times that nobody was able to contact the shipping department, so they could not cancel my order. As it stands now, Target.com has charged my credit card, and appears to have no intention of resolving this matter, including refunding me, or shipping my order.

Pre Order Game
I will never buy from target again. I reserved a copy of mortal kombat tournament edition over 2 weeks ago. Now, TODAY, target figures out that they are out of stock on my preorder. This item comes out TOMORROW. They had a limited amount of this item and they purposely sold more then they had. Any other business is careful not to do this. It took them over two weeks to figure out they did not have enough of this item to fill my order. This is not just failing to meet expectations, this is flat out unacceptable. Target lacks integrity.

Another thing about Target, they give a raise first and then your evaluation. interesting.
I agree, I have been with Target for 3 years and see the bullsh@t that goes on before my eyes. All the good talent go out the door and seek employment at Walmart. Target maybe a great company for some people but there is not enough growth in an organization that their rules and regulation is related to communism.
Target rarely promotes from inside, despite the talent a current team member might have 80-90% of new executives (managers) are fresh college graduates with or without experience. Target wants team members to be open to and willing to change when new policies or procedure are handed down. If you are looking to work your way up in Target..look elsewhere..for they are.
In some instances it makes sense to bring in new talent from other companies. New talent brings in fresh idea, new perspective and often an inside view into how competition functions.
Hiring outside is often preferred for these reasons. Although their may be a great deal of talent from within, policies can be taught to anybody, the experience of how the competition works cannot.
If you are looking to move up to a management position start applying outside target.
it is true that don't hire many team member inside the store for promotions. Some come from other stores or outsider.
Even worst most team members get 1% or 2% pay raises these days.
It is not a great place to work but good place to shope.
Isn't that sad?
The DTL is going to promote his buddy or the woman with the nice rack. Companies are not FAIR. You should move on and find a respectable company to work for NOT TARGET.
Have you ever thought that you aren't "talented" enough for a promotion? I'm sure if Target thought you were management material, that's where you would be. Stop blaming politics and look in the mirror.
